Benchwork

Loading benchwork photos..

As you can see from our slideshow we make many types of benchwork for our clients from table top style to open grid we could even make custom furniture like a desk if you like.

Most of our benchwork is a modular design, as opposed to many custom railroad layouts which are built on-site in one piece. As a result, when these layouts are sold or have to be moved to another location they get destroyed when disassembly is attempted.

Our modules are engineered to be moved easily, and are designed to be relatively light-weight and strong enough to withstand the rigors of the road. This feature adds better resale value in the custom layout trade.

The benchwork is an open-grid system, simply bolted to each other. All joints are glued, screwed, and reinforced with cleats where necessary. The system is thus adaptable and is built with the electrical wiring in mind. The roadbed is fastened directly to the benchwork grid, using a surface such as birch plywood for track support. The open gridwork creates an ideal foundation for adding a contoured landscape through the use of risers, designed for the railroad.

Fascia Work
We make many different types of fascias which can be contoured to match the layout. We can easily provide furniture-grade hardwoods and veneers for a superior grade construction. Custom skirting or trim can be added to the benchwork. Custom cabinets, drawers or shelves under the benchwork are some options also worth considering.
